A prominent Buffalo law firm is looking an Information Governance Manager to lead information governance strategy, ensuring compliance, risk mitigation, data privacy, and effective records management across the organization. This role develops and maintains the firm`s information governance framework while partnering with legal, IT, and firm leadership to align policies and processes with operational and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain information governance policies related to records management, retention, privacy, and information lifecycle management
Partner with legal, IT, and firm leadership to implement information governance strategies and ensure compliance with client and regulatory requirements
Oversee records management systems, legal holds, data classification, retention schedules, and archiving processes
Monitor evolving regulations (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and maintain compliance standards
Support eDiscovery, litigation readiness, audits, and risk management initiatives
Lead information governance training and awareness programs for attorneys and staff
Manage vendor relationships, budgeting, and IG-related client inquiries
Job Requirements
Bachelor`s degree in Information Management, Library Science, Law, or related field; equivalent experience considered
5+ years of information governance, records management, compliance, or related experience, preferably within a legal or professional services environment
Strong knowledge of information governance regulations and privacy frameworks, including HIPAA, GDPR, and CCPA
Experience with document management and records systems such as iManage and NetDocuments
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders across legal, IT, and business teams
Strong communication, project management, and analytical skills
Professional certifications such as IGP, CRM, or CIP preferred
